This weekend, four remarkable OKC leaders were honored at the Dean A. McGee Awards for their vision and dedication to transforming the heart of our city. In the 38th year of the awards, our community took time to celebrate the commendable economic growth, cultural vitality, and development Oklahoma City has seen, recognizing those who contributed.

This year’s Dean A. McGee Award went to Mark Beffort, whose leadership in commercial real estate has been instrumental in shaping both the skyline and the quality of life downtown. From his restoration of historic Film Row to his ongoing work with the Convergence development in the Innovation District, Beffort has driven investment that strengthens Oklahoma City’s economy and reputation on a national scale. His stewardship of landmark properties, including the Skirvin Hilton, reflects a commitment to honoring our history while positioning the city for the future.

The Stanley Draper Award was presented to Chad Huntington, a tireless advocate for Bricktown and cultural tourism. As owner and CEO of Bricktown Water Taxi, Huntington has welcomed millions of visitors to Oklahoma City while championing local arts through his ArtAfloatOKC Foundation. His decades of service to downtown neighborhoods and business districts have made him a central figure in cultivating the city’s welcoming and vibrant atmosphere.

Richard McKown received the Neal Horton Award in recognition of his visionary approach to urban residential development. His work in Deep Deuce, from building Mosaic and Level to attracting the first downtown grocery store, catalyzed the neighborhood’s resurgence. McKown has consistently transformed overlooked spaces into thriving communities, including his innovative reuse of shipping containers and historic buildings.

In perhaps the most touching moment of the night, the President’s Award was given posthumously to Gene Rainbolt, whose legacy of civic leadership and philanthropy continues to shape Oklahoma City. Rainbolt’s efforts to advance education, healthcare, and the arts as well as his support for institutions like the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, remain a model of community investment.

The Dean A. McGee Awards honor leaders whose work ensures downtown remains a place of vision, vitality, and opportunity. This community of developers and this year’s honorees embody the spirit of bold leadership that has made Oklahoma City a destination for innovation and growth.
